A cat condo is a great investment. Nothing is more upsetting than seeing your cat dig into your favorite piece of furniture. One of the toughest things to do, when your cats have all their claws, is train them not to dig on the carpet or the furniture. One thing that has proven to be very effective is a cat condo or cat tree.
A cat condo can do wonders when trying to train your cat to stay off of the furniture. You can purchase a cat tree as small as a foot or so. A cat condo can also be well over seven foot high for the more expensive ones. Because they have scratching posts, toys, and different levels, the cat should be more than happy to vacate the sofa and move on to the new cat condo.
Some great cat condos can be found readily on the Internet and are in all shapes and sizes. a small cat condo cost around $20. If you want to get a true palace for your cat, you can get something in the $200 range. Such a cat palace will have every cat in the neighborhood in a jealous fit.
Training your cat to use his cat condo
In order to get the cat to use this as their perch, it may take just a bit of training. You can achieve it in a variety of ways. To get kitty to use this instead of the furniture to sharpen his claws, bring him over to one of the posts. You will then, press the center of his paw to extend his claws. You can literally help your cat to dig into the post and then reward him.
When looking to get them off of the furniture, feed them their treats every day on the cat condo. Instead of hand feeding or throwing those treats on the floor, sprinkle them across the top of the cat tree. Now instead of trying to get up there, Kitty will run and sit up there first thing in the morning waiting for her treats to be put out.
As far as an investment goes, it will probably be one of the more expensive items that you buy for your cat. It is well worth it. Instead of replacing a $2,000 sofa, you can spend 10% of that. You cat will truly love that gift. Put it in near a window so kitty can look outside and spy on the neighbors. Your cat will love to peer out and will spend entire days in his new cat condo.
